And we're moving on up. NBA ranks Clippers as #2 right now. Boston is ranked #1. Text: Last Week:5↑ Record: 27-14 OffRtg: 119.6 (5) DefRtg: 113.9 (14) NetRtg: +5.6 (4) Pace: 98.2 (27) The Clippers have the league’s best record (24-7) since that 0-5 start with James Harden, and they got another big win last week, closing their game against the Thunder with a 14-2 run. Then they had an even more impressive finish on Sunday afternoon. Three takeaways Despite the league-best record since mid-November (and though the Thunder were playing the fifth game in seven nights), the win over Oklahoma City was a needed one, as the Clippers were previously 1-4 against the three teams ahead of them in the Western Conference standings. They had scored just 112.0 points per 100 possessions over those previous five games, but had 128 on 93 (the most efficient performance against the Thunder this season) on Tuesday. Paul George led the way with 38 points on 15-for-24 shooting, while also being the guy who spent the most time defending Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. Though he had a rough afternoon (5-for-17) against Brooklyn on Sunday, George is registering career-high marks in effective field goal percentage (56.5%), true shooting percentage (60.5%) and assist/turnover ratio (1.75). Their previous win over a team in the West’s top three came against Denver on Dec. 6, when the Clippers came back from a 15-point deficit at the start of the second quarter. They topped that on Sunday, coming back from 18 down early in the fourth against the Nets. They were still down 11 with 5 1/2 minutes left and then closed the game on an amazing, 22-0 run. Their lineup for most of that was James Harden, Russell Westbrook, Norman Powell, George and Kawhi Leonard, a group that had played just 12 total minutes together prior to Sunday. The Clippers are 0-2 against the Lakers, having scored just 108.6 points per 100 possessions (their second-worst mark against any opponent) over the two games. They’ll be the home team for the third meeting on Tuesday, and then begin a seven-game trip that includes a rest-disadvantage game in Boston this weekend. Week 14: vs. LAL, @ TOR, @ BOS

Things are looking good for you guys right now and you are clicking on all cylinders and everyone has accepted their roles. Kinda sucks with your starting center out but all signs point to you guys staying afloat and in championship contention as long as the injury bug doesn't bite, I think it is going to come down to you guys and Denver in the West. I am liking Philly in the East but it is going to be tough. Embiid is playing like an all-time great center and Maxey should be an all-star this year.....

Rockets are much better than I expected this year. I can see them as a play-in team this season. I'd love it if they are the reason the Lakers fail to make the playoffs.

Well we do have a win over them this year and we can help our cause a week from today at the Toyota center. I will be trying to make money off those tix!

Denver seems a little more beatable this season, but I'll still give them West favorites. Jokic is as good or better than ever, but their bench is slightly worse. The East is pretty compelling this season with Boston, Milwaukee and Philly. Miami is struggling, but they'll probably play spoiler for someone. This has to be the year Embiid continues his dominance in the postseason. Every other year it seems like he takes a small step back. Boston is the team to beat for me over there. I haven't always trusted them in the past, but their role guys are top notch and they don't have many weaknesses.

Well as I type this Joel Embiid drops a 70 burger on the Spurs on the exact date 18 years ago that Kobe dropped 81.....This guy has been amazing......

I do think this will finally be the year he continues it in the postseason. Last year he was neutralized pretty bad by Horford (shot 42% in that series). He can't allow that to happen again.

Only Championship level teams can do that. This might be thee squad. In the 2000s, there was an average Milwaukee team that was 13-0. They lost in the first round of the playoffs, and their overall record wasn't great. Championship level teams usually have high margin of victories, which the Clippers have been climbing in, as the season as progressed.

Denver seems a little more beatable this season, but I'll still give them West favorites. I won't. Most teams don't repeat. That was the knock on the Spurs, they never could repeat. The Spurs had 5 chances to repeat. Their best follow up was the Western Conference Finals, one time, in 2008, where they lost in 5 games. Of course the Spurs also changed their roster quite a bit following titles. After 2002-2003, they had 6 returning players only. And tried to get Jason Kidd. If they had gotten Kidd, not sure whether Tony Parker would have embraced playing with him. Popovich would have had an even harder time, getting a young player like Parker to buy in having his role changed, following a title against a player from the team he had just beaten. In recent years, the Bucks and the most recent Warriors team didn't repeat. Even the penultimate championship Warriors team didn't repeat. And really, if trying to be title contenders, it's best to think about where on the title favorite rankings the Clippers are, not conference favorites.

Leonard could have won in 2017 if he hadn't gotten hurt in the middle of game 1 of the Western Conference Finals. That was his best MVP finish year too.
