Quite the luxury that they don't even need him to get through their conference. I wouldn't say that.
What's been the reason Boston has struggled every year in the playoffs? Lack of their stars stepping up.
This time, they seemingly had a 3rd star, in Porzingis. If you take that away, they're possibly being back to their old selves.
If New York faces Boston in the conference Finals, they could give Boston the same problems Miami has given them in the past.
Seemingly less talented, but grittier.
White and Jrue are as good of starters as a lot of guys who are considered stars. I'd take both guys over "star" Bradley Beal. I do agree though that NY could give them a competitive series, but even without Porzingis I just don't think they have enough. Brunson isn't going to have nearly as easy a time being guarded by those guys. They would need Porzingis for the Finals though. I think they can get by Orl/Cle +Ny/Ind though either way.

Good point on Derrick White.
Bradley Beal has been old for a while. It's why I wasn't high on Phoenix, even heading into the season. Heading into the season, I thought Phoenix would finish no better than 4th in the division.
Phoenix needed to go all in, but Beal was the wrong player, with the wrong contract, to go all in with.
I feel like even if Bruson isn't as efficient, if New York can keep up the 2nd chance opportunities against Boston, they could get a win or two like that.
But, first things first, New York needs to get past Indiana.
I've been high on Haliburton since his rookie year. He hasn't had a great season, nor an overall great playoffs. But I think the talent is there.
I would still favor Boston against New York, but I think New York will at least make it a long series (as in tied 2-2 after four games). And I generally don't think New York teams are that good, but I have to give them credit so far.
Then if New York can get a rebounding advantage in a few games, that could help with a win or two.

The Beal contract is a killer being that it has the no trade clause. They are absolutely stuck there. Indiana is a team I just can't get behind. I think to pull off that style you have to be historically efficient and even then you're still likely to get exposed for it. NY plays smart and is great with effort plays. They'll be overmatched against Boston, but I do think they'd win a couple games and make it tough.

New York against Boston with Porzingis: Overmatched.
New York against Boston without Porzingis: Should be 2-2 after 4 games.
I could even see New York leading 3 - 1 after 4 games, only to lose 3 straight games in blowout fashion.
But at least that is interesting.

Fair enough, I hope we see it. Imo Boston can survive that series without Porzingis and I like the Knicks. They play a style that is very fan friendly too. Not casual fan, but hardcore fans. They play really hard, smart and a lot of winning plays from guys who can be considered over achievers. I just think Boston has a lot of guys who can make it tough for them to be as effective as they were against Philly and I think they'll look great against the Pacers too.
