Clippers + 8.5. Well game four is just about here. We are on ABC again so we are the "A" game in the lineup and we will probably get Van Gundy and Mark Jackson again. This is the Rolls Royce treatment you get for playing the defending champion and the prohibitive favorite to win it all again. So let's hope we do a much better job of competing than we did in game three. That game was no fun at all for Clippers fans. So far in this series we have started off every game like we were Bruce Banner and if we don't manage to turn into the Incredible Hulk we are totally screwed. How is that for a metaphor for you.
Seriously, as Doc said in the paper today Danilo Gallinari has to play well for us to be competitive in this game. The thing he left out was Patrick Beverley, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Landry Shamet, Lou Williams, Montrezl Harrell, Jumychal Green, and Danilo Gallinari have to play well for us to be competitive in this game. All these other playoff teams have poor shooting (Westbrook going 5 for 20 or George going 3 for 16 or Donovan Mitchell going 5 for 19 or Fournier going 1 for 12 or on and on and on) that opens a window for the other team to win. But no. We always face the coldly efficient Warriors who never seem to have an off night shooting. Even when we beat them they shot almost 54% from the field and 85% from the free throw line. And they scored 131 points. It sucks trying to beat a team that not only shoots a high percentage but shoots a lot of three pointers at a high percentage.
I don't think people who suggest we play better defense know what they are talking about. We threw everything at Durant but the kitchen sink and he still scored 38 on us in only 23 shots. He did hit only 3 out of 10 three pointers though. They made an adjustment in their offense so that Beverley could not guard him. He posted up much more so that 11 of his made field goals were inside the three point line. Beverley can't steal the ball from him if he never dribbles. He just held it over his head and shot over Beverley. Plus, we put Gallo, Green, Shai, Shamet, and maybe even Zubac on him and none of them could stop him from taking and hitting those shots.
So the key to winning is maybe what V-Ice is suggesting. Stop Iggy, Looney, and Bogut from scoring while playing tough D on Curry, Durant, and Thompson. And of course our guys need to hit shots. It is winnable but we have to play very very well to tie this series up. I would be happy if we just take it down to the last five minutes with the game still in doubt. Don't give them another game where they walk all over us. Let them know they have been in a fight.
