What do you mean by this? They are releasing so much original programming before it has built any demand to see it. Every now and then something breaks out like Stranger Things or Bird Box but they have yet to create a Godfather, Sopranos, Seinfeld, Breaking Bad or Game of Thrones. In that regard, HBO has a superior catalog except in stand-up comedy. Dave Chappelle is my favorite stand-up and his newer stuff is on Netflix. Black Mirror, Narcos, Mind Hunter.

Heading in to summer and there is nothing that I am dying to see. I will wait for the reviews on the new Tarantino movie before seeing it because his last movie (The Hateful Eight) was a disappointment. Thinking about canceling my Netflix subscription. Too much original programming that has not been vetted. I am curious to see what Disney's streaming service will look like. I think content will be king in the future now that everyone has caught up to Netflix's first mover advantage in streaming. QT is an absolutely incredible director who’s made some of the best American films ever. That being said The Hateful Eight is the worst movie I’ve ever sat through.

"Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk":
* Good drama movie, involving a PTSD veteran.
* The movie style was pretty good, in how it used flashbacks.
* The picture quality looked good, but I didn't think it was so much better than any other movie I've seen. I'm not sure going from HD to 4K is that big of a difference, as going from SD to HD is. I didn't have the "wow" factor. I just focused on the plot of the movie, and enjoyed that. The movie was shot at 120 fps.
* The sound effects were good.

The Chef Show, which is sort of a continuation of the movie Chef, is excellent on Netflix if you like food, and in particular if you enjoy food trucks.

What's wrong with it?
Why did they make a reboot anyways?
I've seen all of the other ones, through 2017's Cult Of Chucky.
I liked the 2013 Curse Of Chucky the best.

Keep in mind US studios do keep a larger percentage of box office from domestic sales. International sales get a larger percentage eaten up by those nations before it reaches the studio here. A discussion of the business of movies? You guys are from LA. I kind of agree that foreign markets are driving production decisions given that US movie ticket sales peaked in 2002 (according to Box Office Mojo): Looking at the names of the biggest grossing movies overseas, it is mostly superheros and cartoons--just like here. A name I haven't heard is The Wandering Earth. It is a Chinese movie about the Sun dying out and we put thrusters on the Earth to search for a new star. It has grossed $700 million this year. Wandering Earth is on Netflix. OK but kind of hackey. The science (putting thrusters on Earth to move it to a different galaxy) is too far fetched. For dying Sun movies, I recommend Sunshine.

Unfortunately, I think he has lost it. It was more in the category of Hateful 8 and Jackie Brown than his other movies. He said he is retiring after making one more movie. That might be 3 movies too late.

I thought Scorsesee had lost it until he came out with The Wolf of Wall Street. I thought Woody Allen had lost it until he came out with Midnight in Paris.
Quentin just needs to figure out how he wants to evolve from his earlier hits. He could keep doing violent comedies like how Scorsesee stuck with Robert DeNiro gangster pics for a while. Or he could go Hollywood with big budget movies like every director in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Or he could try something completely different like how Danny Boyle keeps reinventing himself (Trainspotting, 28 Days Later, Sunshine, Slumdog Millionaire, Yesterday)

"Maiden", "Midsommar", and "The Farewell" were all excellent movies. "Crawl" and "Annabelle: Homecoming" were pretty decent horror movies. Have not seen the new Tarantino movie yet but since it got 85% fresh on rotten tomatoes and Kevin Turan gave it a great review in the L.A. Times on Friday I am sure it is excellent.
I thought the "Hateful Eight" was a good movie too. A lot better than "Kill Bill part 2".
So a lot to like about these summer movies so far. But it seems like most of the quality is coming from the small and independent art house movies. "Long Days Journey Into Night" and "Shadow" were also excellent movies. "Spiderman" and "Avengers: Endgame" not so much. A much better multiverse movie would be something like "Yesterday" where nobody has heard of the Beatles after the main character shifts to another multiverse. And the guy gets to redo all their music as if he had written it himself since he is the only one who remembers them. Another very good movie.
