Portland - 5. Dreaded trip to RIP city. I would think Boban would start again against Nurkic. That seems like an ideal matchup for him. I have to check it out. www.rotoworld.com/teams/clubhouse/nba/por/portland-trail-blazersYes. Nurkic and Leonard no threat to shoot threes so no need to keep Boban out as a starter. Gortat not producing in that role so give Boban the start. Especially against this Portland team. Lillard and McCollum are the two main threats from the three point line. I would put Beverley on Lillard and SGA/Bradley (if available) on McCollum. You can't give these guys open three pointers. At about 37% that is too high to let them have those shots. Maybe higher being that this is a home game for them. Let Aminu shoot from three. His 30% not good enough to be that much of a threat. Collins comes in at center if they go small. In that case take Boban out. I think our defense on Lillard and McCollum will decide this. But maybe not. If Harris and Gallo can outscore then in a shootout maybe we can win. We are rested and motivated so that should not be a problem. Should be a good game.

There's another trip on Nov. 25th to RIP city.

To me, I'd "dread" a place only if there was a really long bad history there. Like that streak at Salt Lake City. But then even a part of me, would embrace it, as I want to see that streak broken. Every year is a new year to stop the losing. That's kind of what I like about the Grammys Road Trip. Every year is a chance to set a NBA record for a great road trip, by going 7 - 2 or something. Maybe not a record outright, but you know what I mean. Have one of those trips. For example, in February 2009, the Clippers won back to back road games by 21+ points, on consecutive nights. That's something that rarely happens, for most teams. So it was cool. www.basketball-reference.com/teams/LAC/2009_games.html

Also, the Clippers ended their futility in Portland (overall bad record) a few years ago. Sure, this is a different team, but just having that recent success takes it off the dread list.
I heard a stat yesterday that Toronto was 4 - 17 in Sacramento. I didn't know they struggled every year against Sacramento. Now that would qualify as a dread. But then they won yesterday, so it should be off the dread list. So it should now be 5 - 17.

Also, just start Marjanovic regardless of who is on the other team. He'll figure out how to play.
Even if he doesn't play 28 minutes a night, just having him in the 20s is good.

According to other boards, Tobias won’t play tonight. Sick

Really tough game. We were in it through the third. In fact a barely missed shot would have tied it to end the third. And then the fourth took us down. Tobias was clearly sick but toughing it out. SGA was playing hard. Lou Williams was playing hard. Harrell was playing hard. Gallo was playing hard. Mike Scott and Pat Beverley...not so much. Milos had an off game as well.

I didn't see the game but I like when Boban is in the game with Lou. The defense has to focus on both of them so it creates problems. Beverly can't create so everything is stagnate.

This game not having DeAndre Jordan killed us. Collins, Leonard, and Nurkic were killing us on the offensive boards and we had no center in the game so we could not get stops or rebounds when it mattered the most. Gallo or Harris were trying to play center in the fourth quarter but they just could not come up with the defensive rebounds. Boban completely outplayed by Nurkic in the first quarter and was pretty much benched after that. Somehow Nurkic kept Boban out of the key on offense by just putting a body on him. Boban wasn't helping on offense after that. And he wasn't a factor in rebounding or defense enough to offset his uselessness on offense. So he was benched.
We played well enough to win this game. Defense on Lillard and McCollum were both excellent and we held them in check. Too bad we did not have a center that could contain their bigs. That is what really changed the game. Those 14 offensive rebounds they got and most of them in the fourth quarter. SGA had an excellent game. Gallo and Harrell both had very good games. It should have all added up to a win for us. Instead it exposed a weakness that we don't have any centers that can protect the rim and get defensive rebounds. Get rid of Gortat and Boban next summer and bring in or draft a better big man. Or resign DJ if he wants to come back to L.A.

Why couldn't Boban help with rebounding?

Did Shai just have an off night at the foul line? He seemed to be a solid FT shooter before this.

Nurkic put a body on Boban and kept him out of the key. Boban did not have an answer for that. Shai just missed his first two free throws. Maybe he was nervous or something. It happens. Other than that he had a pretty good night.
