I noticed ESPN calls the Lakers "Los Angeles", and the Clippers "LA". After the game, they made a point on how that confused even them, until they finally learned it.

Is that an official distinction (are the Clippers officially "LA")?

Or is that a made up one?

First time I've heard it. Seems like a dumb distinction. Just say Lakers and Clippers.

This was on an infographic where they were showing the box score.  So they didn't say Lakers or Clippers, but LA vs Los Angeles.

Since it doesn't appear to be official, they should just go with the full names.

Also, I think NBA TV did this too. I must have been watching NBA TV after the game, and not ESPN, since this was a NBA TV game.

Usually ESPN has Friday games on national TV, but it was NBA TV yesterday.
