Let's see who makes it.
I didn't get a chance to post my picks earlier, I might do it later.

2024 West All-Star reserves:
Kawhi Leonard Anthony Davis Devin Booker Anthony Edwards Stephen Curry Paul George Karl-Anthony Towns
2024 East All-Star reserves:
Jaylen Brown Donovan Mitchell Jalen Brunson Bam Adebayo Julius Randle Tyrese Maxey Paolo Banchero
No big surprises in the West (except Towns imo). I liked Mistwell's picks for the two teams than the guys who made it over them though I'd have given Fox a spot over Towns. Randle and Embiid will get replaced soon so 2 more not as deserving East guys will make it.

When I do my picks, I'm going to look at games played vs. total team games, as the margin is tight.
And I'd lean towards having players from different teams, as Markkanen, Sengun, and McCollum would be in the mix as potential reserves.
Oh shoot, McCollum only played in 34 games. Nevermind. I do want him to make it one year, since he's never made it. But I can't pick him if he's missed so many games. Not when the competition is tight.
Anyways I'll try to make my list tonight.

Positions DO NOT MATTER when selecting injury replacements. Guards can replace bigs, and vice versa. In fact, if you look at the history of replacements, most of the times it's the opposite position that the commissioner selects as a replacement.

I didn't mean it in the sense that 2 Centers will get in. Moreso that the East already has half their reserves that wouldn't make it in the West.

I just quoted your post since it talked about injuries.

I don't think they need to expand the All-Star rosters.
They are never going to be able to play 15 players in a game. They have a hard enough time playing 12 players.
Zydrunas Ilgauskas was 27 when he made his first All-Star game, having battled though many injured seasons to finally make it.
Coach Isiah Thomas of the East All-Star team played him 4:00 minutes.
I would be disappointed if I were him.

I agree. And there are usually 2-3 who can't play anyway so they promote up people. Its plenty. It's just a popularity contest and the game is pathetic anyway.

I agree. And there are usually 2-3 who can't play anyway so they promote up people. Its plenty. It's just a popularity contest and the game is pathetic anyway. I don't want to use potential injuries as a reason why the roster size is enough. Because sometimes it's one conference that's more injured than the other.
But yes, the game hasn't been as enjoyable to me for a while. I'll watch, but it's not something I anticipate as much.
And while mathematically, the minutes would come out to this:
240 minutes, 12 players = 20 mpg. 240 minutes, 15 players = 16 mpg.
In the real world, there's players that play about 30 mins per game, which make some players play 10 or less. And fans of those players who play 10 mpg or less are not going to be happy.
There would be even less minutes in the real world with a 15 person roster.
And yes, coaches have their own biases too. Like when they picked Tim Duncan as an All-Star even though he averaged 13 ppg. (He would play better again in future years).
I wonder if coaches have a problem with Trae Young, because that's two years in a row he hasn't made the team.
The MLB All-Star game has its own problems. I hate how players can get picked, and then not play. It's one of the few times a year to see certain players, and too many skip it for one reason or another.
The competition is better than the NBA game, though.

But I just heard an interesting case for Gobert over Towns. The case was that without Gobert, Minnesota is a 7th seed. Towns only played 24 games last year, so you could say this is their first real year together. And the team has played much better than last year. Conley Jr. might have something to do with that too.

Good to see Scottie Barnes made it as an injury replacement.
I finally will get to my picks for reserves this weekend.
