What are the cliff notes for this game? Only 19 Zu mins, Plumlee doesnt play, we shoot 37% (Harden 0-10) and win on the road some how. Not a recipe for beating them in a series hopefully Lue isnt fooled by fool's gold here (probably is). Small lineups weren't good.
It was a defensive game.
Towns still doesn't look like a star.
Both teams were persistent in defense. Minnesota all game, Clippers from the 2nd quarter onwards.
Conley Jr. needed to be better.
Theis shot too many perimeter shots.
Minnesota maintains their identity.
Towns looks like a star to me. Theis hesitated and passed on open 3s, then he started taking them. I would bet $$$ Lue told him to take the shots and stop hesitating. I find myself feeling as confident when Theis attempts a 3 as when Russ attempts a 3. The difference is, if and when Theis makes them, it forces the opponent's bigs out of the paint to guard him, and that's a plus. Russ is making 26% of his 3s this year. Theis is making 40% of his 3s this year. Russ has a career 30% average on 3s. Theis has a career 33% average on 3s.

I just saw that Towns is shooting 87% from the foul line, on 4.7 FT Attempts a game.
A few years ago, he used to average 6.5, and 6.2 the year after that. He took both more 3's and FTAs a few years ago.
I guess that was before Edwards role increased.
Towns is 20th in FT% (a compliment).
Since he's so good, I think he should find ways to get to the FT line more.
Even if Theis makes a few, I don't think teams will guard him. Nor would they guard Westbrook.
If Theis is shooting 58% on 2's, I think he can be used for a few more putbacks.

Zu had no energy at all. I’m glad he didn’t play down the stretch. Also don’t feel confident about Hyland right now as our back up PG. Could we use Mann? Or even Moon?

I'm not too worried about backup PG.

Yeah I agree, it's a minor role. It's pretty clear Powell should be the number 1 option off the bench. When he's in with Bones he's the clear guy. When he's in with Russ, they share duties pretty 50/50. Actually more like 60/40 Russ. They average the same number of shots, but Powell plays more minutes. Russ averages 3.5 more assists too so he uses many more possessions. With Bones, it should be 75/25 Powell. The best thing Bones could do is get his 3 point shot going again and be ready to make the open ones. Also push the ball up when it's there.

Is our defense really better with Westbrook than with Bones? How many times does Westbrook crash the ball off the backboard when he's going 180 mph for a layup which results in the defense getting slaughtered and an easy bucket on the other end?
We saw stellar defense yesterday by Kawhi, Paul George - even Harden was great. Zu is still not 100% and he's a great defensive player. Time will tell if we're really worse off with Bones at the one with the second unit than Westbrook. The league is at their peak performance now - they've been playing all year. It's going to take him, I'm guessing, about two weeks to get his timing and into the flow. We'll see. I'm not sure this is even a drop off.

He has much better traits for defense than Bones, just with size and strength. Thin guys like Bones can always get pretty abused by good 1 on 1 players. And rebounding should def be another big adv to Russ. But the trade off of more of the 2nd unit running through Powell might be worth it. And the spacing that Bones gives you since you can't just leave him open at the 3 point line.

His size, given his skill set. Do you think his size makes it easy to get a shot off, and hard to block, with the way he plays?

His size, given his skill set. Do you think his size makes it easy to get a shot off, and hard to block, with the way he plays? Yes, that offensively, plus he can bully his way to the basket for a layup, given his speed and handles, relatively for a big man. Defensively, if he's in the paint with Gobert, they constitute a formidable wall. If he is roaming in the perimetres, he can tower over the wings and stay in front of them well enough for his size. Essentially, what I am saying is he is oversized for his skill set. As an analogical example, Magic Johnson was oversized for his Point Guard skill set and that gave him a huge advantage. Does that make sense?

I also usually like your analogies too. You also phrase them in a way that's easy to understand.
