He is #4 on this week's Kia Rookie Ladder, ahead of SGA and Jerome: www.nba.com/rookie-ladderWhat do we think about this? Is there a role for Jerome on this team?

Trade bait. Career role player on team friendly deals. We should’ve drafted Porter. Imagine the potential of him in the starting lineup with Shai and Shamet.

It’s the 14th overall pick. I understand you’d rather play it safe, but I’d rather go for upside with that type of pick, even if it’s risky. The upside of a long, athletic versatile swing that was compared to Zion in HS is a lot higher than a jump shooter in-and-out of the G-league that’s afraid to shoot. Our front office made a lot of great moves in the last 1 1/2 seasons but I think this would be the one they say ‘d’oh’ to. Maybe Porter’s career isn’t anything more that an a journeyman often hurt and JRob finds his mojo and completely surprises us in a few years.

Way, way too early to write off Robinson. He's been eclipsed by Shamet because they are almost identical players and Shamet has had a handful of terrific games. Some rookies come out of the box in an explosion, others take time, and others yet never blossom. Much of it depends on their high school and college training. Remember DJ's first 3-4 years?
Keep in mind, Robinson was told by his coaches in college to make sure he doesn't get injured because they depended on him so much. They even told him to not play vigorous D. That is some bullshit training. It may take him 2-3 years to get rid of that nonsense in his head.
But if he does blossom, think of the luxury of having two almost identical players, with one coming off the bench and drawing a much smaller salary because it took him a while to get good.

Also having 2 prolific shooters on the floor is only a good thing. Or you can sub one out for the other. JRob can’t be afraid to shoot, though.

Porter has length and can shoot. I think he'll be a poor man's Gallo. Robinson really needs to step it up with his scoring because he doesn't really bring anything as far as rebounding and defense.
