Run back being a first round team? Run back being a play-in team? Worse?

The only guy I care about keeping at this point is Zubac.

The only guy I care about keeping at this point is Zubac. Agree. (I also like Powell and Batum, but I'm sure there's an aging, washed-up once-superstar we could trade them for).

My guess is the trade market for Harden and Leonard is not that good, so without options they have to say they want to bring it all back.

I wouldn’t mind Lue stepping down and hand the job to JVG.

I'm not opposed to keeping Lue, but I think we should look into improving who runs the offense (not sure who that is). I'm not one for preaching ball movement and no isolations when that is the strength of our 2 best scorers, but we don't run a system. I'm really impressed with Adelman and the Nuggets scheme wise. I think a lot of people just think it's due to Jokic's greatness and of course that's a lot of it, but they actually run sets a lot too. I was digging into some more analytics and not to get too deep into that, but Denver runs the most sets (organized offense- a word Adelman used a lot) while we run the least. We are a true have the players figure it out offense. You can still run isolation when you have plays, but your off ball actions set you up better. Maybe it's really hard to do with Harden, and maybe we don't have enough other shot creators, but I'd rather see them make some attempts to improve this.
Harden's too old to be this guy anymore and frankly how many other teams can guard him better than Denver? I thought this would be one of his better match ups. OKC is a horrible match up for Harden (and Powell), but better for Kawhi and Zu. Houston would be tough for him. The Warriors and Wolves too. Denver and the Lakers were his best matchups imo and to his credit he probably had 4 good games, which is pretty in line for most number 2 options (non max guys) but it's not going to get better moving forward. Lue gets a lot of credit for his adjustments, but I think he's more of a managing relationships coach. I think he has a decent handle on which guys to play, but prob gets too much credit for adjustments when it's kind of more like he's just trying different things and if they work it looks good. They also don't work a lot of the time.

I also was not entirely opposed to David Adelman's sudden emergence for Denver, because I had heard a few months ago that he was one of the next up and coming coaches, and that Portland was going to try and get him this offseason.
Which also made sense, since he was born near Portland in Salem, and lived there during BlazerMania.
Once David Adelman got the interim job in Denver, I think the Trail Blazers thought David Adelman was now a long shot. So they extended Chauncey Billups instead.

That's interesting I hadn't heard that, but I remember a lot of people being surprised by the Billups extension. I think a lot of ppl were actually expecting him to be fired. The analytics is essentially tracking organized offense and the % of plays that team runs set plays to create movement on offense like off ball screens/cuts and different formations (One example of a common set is horns- 2 bigs at the top where they could screen or fake the screen and cut; plus all the counters.. And then all the counters you have to the defense being played, how they're playing screens (switching/drop/trapping). Average is around 48% of plays where teams implement organized sets vs just giving it to their lead creator and having him basically figure it out. And even when you run a set, it doesn't always work. Maybe the screen wasn't good enough or the ball handler went early or the defensive player fought over it well. You can still run iso ball after that, but how often did the team try to run something first. So anyways the Nuggets ran organized sets on 61% of their plays while the Clippers did it 21% of the time. This has been the crux of the Harden conversation for years plus the "I am the system". And to his credit he is able to create good offense more than most players would doing it the way he does, but if they would also embrace going into these sets first more they could probably get easier shots more often.

Yes, I had heard the same thing late in the season, that Billups was rumored to not be coming back at the end of the season. The only extra thing I heard was that it was because Portland had David Adelman as a top coaching target.

Once David Adelman got the interim job in Denver, I think the Trail Blazers thought David Adelman was now a long shot. So they extended Chauncey Billups instead. This has been the crux of the Harden conversation for years plus the "I am the system". When I read this, I imagined dane responding with the now famous Harden belly pic. I'll also repost your reply to it: "I'm not a system player; I AM a system." (Harden at news conference.) Well, that bodes well . That quote got overblown. He talked mostly about sacrificing, doesn't care about how many shots he gets, just looking to be a part of the championship equation. Not that it matters, it's all the regular stuff you hear. Also, he's technically not wrong about that. I don't want scoring Harden. I want facilitator Harden. That has a chance to work. When guys are out he can up the scoring, but ideally he's 20ppg or less. It's ironic that George is creating at career best levels, but you also don't know if it could've kept up. This team will need to get some defenders now though.
