Good win. Beverley has an injury though, to his right hip. "Beverley has been diagnosed with a bruised right hip. He'll likely land on the injury report ahead of Thursday's contest against Milwaukee." Which sucks. Bucks are great, and beating them would help us a whole lot in the standings. Without Beverley it would be tough, and if Shamet is also still out, then it's a scheduled loss. It sounds like Shamet and Beverley could both play the next game.
"It's so hard to make the playoffs in the West," said guard Patrick Beverley, who said he was fine after exiting the game with a hip pointer. G Landry Shamet did not play due to an ankle injury. Shamet is averaging 11.2 points per game since he was traded to the Clippers in early February. Rivers said Shamet would've played if it were a playoff gamewww.espn.com/nba/recap?gameId=401071785What's the latest on Shamrock's injury? When will he come back? I'm still not sure what the time table really means if they would have played "if it were a playoffs game". That still could mean they need another game or two to recover. Do you think they'll decide by tonight?

Of course instead of watching the second half of the Clippers game I was watching the Spurs/Hornets game. I figured we had a big halftime lead so there was nothing to worry about. Once again the Spurs announcer invoked "Lawler's Law" when they hit 100 before the Hornets and once again they lost. Just like they did to the Rockets. "Lawler's Law" is getting completely trashed by the Spurs losing. Kemba Walker played really good in the closing minutes and in overtime. Hit a lot of big shots. Once again Aldridge and DeRozan hit 20 shots and 10 free throws between them and only get 50 points out of it. Still say its tough to win when your big stars don't hit three pointers. Well good news is we clinched a playoff spot. Good news is that Temple came up big as a starter with the five three pointers. Good news that Zubac was +3 instead of -35 like the last time we played at Minnesota. In fact, all of the starters had positive numbers on the +/- totals with Gallo leading at +13. The reserves were pretty good too with Harrell and Lou doing most of the scoring. TWolves and Bayless were terrible from the free throw line which really hurt their chances. We outshot them badly at 54% to 43%, outrebounded them 51 to 43, they shot only 60% from the free throw line, and we still only won by 10 and were getting pushed in the fourth quarter. Which means too many turnovers for us at 18. We need to cut that number if we want to beat the Bucks tomorrow. Do you have league pass? Aldridge and DeRozan can get points by getting to the foul line. In previous seasons, DeRozan averaged 8+ free throw attempts per game. Both of those guys can shoot 82 - 85% from the line, so if they keep racking up free throw attempts, they can score enough. I haven't liked the Spurs defense since Bowen got old. They never were able to find a good solution to that, not even with Leonard. They are 20th in defensive rating this year. That's the bigger concern. The Spurs are usually the # 1 3-point percentage team, so they make them with the most accuracy. That counts for something.

Clippers have lost 1 game........IN THE LAST MONTH. (a game where Gallo sat out in POR) That game is coming back to bite us a little bit. If Gallo had played, very good chance the game would have been a W, the streak would have been 12 wins in a row, and we'd be 1 game out of 3rd place behind Portland & Houston and likely to overtake Portland going forward, probably end up in the 4th seed behind Houston in 3rd, or at worst in 5th behind Utah in 4th. In either case, we would be facing Utah in the first round, the only difference would be who would have home court. As it looks now, we'll probably be facing GSW or Denver in the first round. That one loss to Houston had huge implications.

Or, Gallinari plays well in the Portland game, but is tired and plays poorly in one of the following games.
It depends on if he was rested because he thought he was tired, or if the coach thought he was tired (but Gallinari himself didn't.)

It depends on if he was rested because he thought he was tired, or if the coach thought he was tired (but Gallinari himself didn't.) 1) Over 82 games, this was the one that was crucial for him to rest? and 2) There is something between playing and not playing, maybe play fewer minutes? Maybe wait for one of the easier games coming up? That Portland game was very consequential at this juncture, when positioning for seed position. I think the decision to rest him was a very poor one.

He said it was not rest. He said it was injury related and not him resting.

Yeah and what if Jordan Clarkson's shot at Cleveland had gone in instead of rimming out. Then we would have the same record as if Gallo played that Portland game and we had won. There are a lot of "what ifs" in sports. From my standpoint we are basically a .500 team that has won a whole hell of a lot of coin flip games this year. We are not that good. Certainly not a three or four seed. I am glad we just made it to the playoffs. I expect the good teams like the Bucks, Rockets, Jazz, and Warriors to do some beating up on us these last seven games. Although I do think we can take the Rockets and Jazz if we play well since we are the home team.
