www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/26371312/here-wrong-every-west-playoff-teamLA Clippers: The 3s The Clippers are a great story, but they aren't a great team. Through the lens of net rating, the Clippers are the weakest of these eight contenders. They have an average plus-1.3 net rating overall, and that drops to a negative mark against West foes. They won't scare anyone. It's just hard to imagine how LA could pull off a first-round upset. At a time when 3-point offense is a prerequisite for deep runs, the Clippers enter the playoffs as one of the most anemic 3-point-shooting teams in the league. They rank 26th in the NBA in total 3-point makes, and no team in the NBA shoots fewer 3s per 100 possessions than the Clips (24.6). Landry Shamet is their No. 1 3-point shooter, but he's a rookie, and it's unclear how he'll fare in a series.

Post All-star break the Clippers have a net rating of plus-4.4. Tied for 6th in the league. Our made 3's have picked up to about league average.
For the season the Clippers are #2 in 3-point percentage, #1 in FT made, and 6th overall in TS%.

1) Context: With a title like "Here's what's wrong with every West playoff team", you expect the writer will be looking for some negative narrative. I'm sure in a similar context, the writer would find some negative narrative about MJ's bulls, Larry Bird's Celtics, or the Lakers' Showtime.
2) The statistical matrix cited are for the entire year, I'm sure. This Clippers team is a different team since the trade deadline, winning 15 of 19 games. Winning percentage before the deadline: .535, winning percentage after the deadline: .789.

In the article I would say that Kirk Goldsberry is the worst of all the writers. I wonder if they would publish it.

He is basing the analysis on season long stats, without taking into account the numbers the team has put up since the new acquisitions at the trade deadline.
But hey, I love this stuff. Keep underestimating this team, they are better that way.

I wonder what they'll say about the East teams, and if they'll include some of the teams that can still make the playoffs, but aren't currently in it.

Sure but he said the Clippers are the worst of all playoff teams in the west. He's not wrong.... Have you looked at Portland or OKC? San Antonio lost to Sacramento at home and struggled to beat Atlanta at home yesterday.

Sure but he said the Clippers are the worst of all playoff teams in the west. He's not wrong.... Then you have not watched many of our games, or San Antonio's, OKCs, or the Thunders games recently. We're better than all three of those teams, right now, given their injuries and how they're all playing these days. But hey, that's OK. Everyone has underestimated the Clippers all year long, so it's no surprise it's still happening. If we get the Rockets, I hope they underestimate us as well. I respect this Rockets team (unlike a lot of people on this board) but I do think we have a shot at beating them in a 7 game series.

most beat writers out there say the same thing about the Clippers and its apparent that they really don't watch them. I think think there is still the old Clipper stigma that some still can't get past. If I was anyone other than GS, Denver and Houston I would be afraid of facing the clippers the way they have been playing lately. Even, Denver, although, I think their own home court advantage with the altitude tips the scales in their favor.
