Discuss.
I think the CP trade was doomed from the start. The guy is just too demanding yet too small to put a team on his back and get everyone in line. He was also the guy that demanded we fire VDN for Doc and we had to give Doc the GM role to get him to come over.
If we hadn't made the trade, our starting lineup would have been Bledsoe, Gordon, Aminu, Blake and DJ. Watching those guys develop to a playoff team would have been fun. I'm sure they could have made it at least to second round of playoffs.

Bledsoe and Gordon would have been injured a lot.
Gordon was injured for 1/2 of his New Orleans career.

But I agree that team would have been fun and balanced.

Our supporting cast went down every year during the CP era because we didn't have money to sign good players and Doc didn't want to develop young guys.

1. Doc's poor performance as a GM. 2. Blake's poor performance/durability issues.

Lob City was really mostly about Blake when athletically speaking he was the talk of the league. If he could have stayed healthy it might have played out differently. With him losing a lot of his athleticism, not wanting to bang as much, and Docs insistence of making him a three point shooter and facilitator, all were factors. Lob City effectively ended when Blake stopped dunking.

It ended when Blake refashioned himself into a subpar shooting guard.

CP3 trade was the greatest trade we made in history. We should have won two or three titles with that trade. Only problem was we needed Blake Griffin to be a dominant player like a Lebron James. He turned out to be a frequently injured choker who could never carry the team in the clutch when we needed him most. It was not CP3's fault we did not win. At least in most cases. He always was a player who need a lot of support from his bigs to win anything. He just did not get enough from DJ or BG. Of course the support Doc brought in was mostly garbage that did not help. Getting rid of Kaman, Aminu, Gordon, and the pick that became Austin Rivers was no big loss.

I think the Rockets will discover that CP will kill that franchise also. Insisting on 4 year max at his age, tossing off Ariza and Moute, signing Carmelo are all CP moves.
The guy is a master at controlling a narrative--he turned down 5 year max from Clippers, he and Harden were peacemakers in last year's Clippers squabble, Rondo spit on him, yadda, yadda, yadda.
Being head of the union must make him untouchable like Tony Soprano. "If you don't want any labor trouble at the next contract negotiation, you need to give me a max contract and sign my friend even though he doesnt fit and got our coach fired from his last job."

I think the Rockets could have won a ring last year if CP3 did not get injured. That may have been their only window. Open and now shut. And yes his max deal cost them Ariza and Mou a Moute. He isn't as good as he was seven years ago when we first got him. If we had him right now we would be a playoff team. That is if he could stay healthy. No telling what Harris and Gallo could do with a decent point guard. Rockets management loves D'Antoni. But I guess with CP3 getting the max he will have Mike fired if he isn't happy about how this season goes. CP3 and Harden basically control that franchise now. Stars of teams like Lebron or Harden or CP3 have every right to pick the coach they want to play for. Hell if two guys control 66% of the payroll it behooves management to give them what they want.

His PER also is down from 12.6 to 9.7. Playing behind Wall and Beal will make him work for his minutes.

Austin Rivers had a really bad game for the Wizards last night. Which might mean his next contract could be very iffy if he does not play well this season. He never passed for assists with lobs to dunkers so he did not contribute anything to lob city. Mainly CP3 passing to Blake and DJ and Blake passing to DJ for dunks were the best at it. I miss that part of our offense.

So far, Blake seems to be the most successful, both individual and team, Lob City alumni. I think CP is on his way to killing the Rockets.
