Assuming things stay as they are, which is not a certainty as I can see Rockets or Jazz in the play-in, who would be your preferred first round opponent?

mistwell, hope you don't mind. A few weeks ago, I asked if there was any regular season series that someone thinks would have the opposite winner in the playoffs. I then looked for the most extreme examples. The most interesting one to me was Cleveland going 6-0 against Chicago in the regular season, then losing to them in the 1989 playoffs in the first round. Here's how the Clippers have done against the listed teams: Minnesota: 1 - 2, 1 game to go Oklahoma City: 1 - 2 Denver: 1 - 2, 1 game to go New Orleans: 1 - 2, 1 game to go. 1 game away from possibly being a series where the road team wins all four games. Phoenix: 2 - 0, 2 to go. Sacramento: 2 - 1, 1 to go. Dallas: 2 - 1 Los Angeles Lakers: 1 - 3 Golden State: 3 - 1

TBH Don’t care. As long as we are healthy. We are built for playoffs.

Does anyone think there's a series the Clippers won in the regular season, but would lose in the playoffs?
Since there's some talk about the opposite, which is the Clippers winning a playoffs series against a team they lost the series to in the regular season.

Sadly I think we've only at best tied series against the better teams. Of the teams we've won the season series against I'd say the Suns would be a pretty big threat to win a series

Our better lineup will probably be with Norm in over Bones. Pels have him pretty locked up.

If things stay as they are now, we should be conducting a poll as to which team we want to meet in the play-in. There's three Pacific Division teams in the play-in, out of four spots. I wonder if four Pacific Division teams can be stuffed in there. In the East, all three divisions are represented in the four play-in spots.

{Still in London as I post this}
Looking like Mavs in the first round.
Again.
I am pessimistic. I think this is the year we finally drop to the Mavs in the first round.
Kawhi is playing great. Powell is what he needs to be. Westbrook is Westbrook.
PG is up and down, and hasn't been quite right since his salary negotiations went south.
Harden is up and down, and hasn't been quite right since PGs salary negotiations put his salary negotiations in limbo.
Zu is up and down and hasn't been quite right since his injury.
Mann is still not really a starter-level player, and we needed a PF this year.
None of our backup centers are really quite up to the task. Nobody has really been up to being backup center since we lost Hartenstein.
Bones Hyland is not really up to snuff this season.
Coffey is up and down. Not sure he is up for backup minutes in a playoff series.
Tucker is not a competent NBA player and should not be playing backup anything.
So pretty much I am satisfied with like three players at the moment on this team, two of them are bench players.
I just don't have faith in most of this team other than Kawhi.
I hope I am proven wrong. We of course do still have a chance. March was a brutal schedule month for us with 17 games and some of this could just be that schedule. I sure hope so. [/i]

[/i][/quote] I think I kind of agree, but at this point if we can't get by the Mavs I don't think we'd have everything line up perfectly to get through the rest of the conference either without things that haven't been happening start happening again. We don't need Harden to be Houston Harden, but his defense needs to be way better and he has to have 2-3 somewhat big games in a 7 game series. Is he capable of that anymore? Paul George's March was what we needed him from him, but overall we still didn't play that well. I don't think we're getting better than 24 points on 52% FG/47% 3FG. Kawhi is the guy I know can rise to another level. Mavs have more help than Luka's ever had. He's previously played Zu off the court and Lue doesn't like not using drop coverage bc otherwise Luka destroys him when he's isolated at the 3 point line. So Lue is either going to go to Plumlee or Tucker most likely instead, which makes us a worse team. NOP presents their own issues and defensively they make it tougher for Kawhi/Harden/PG. Before when we beat Dallas, Luka would fade in the 4th but now they have Kyrie. Plus they added 2 solid bigs. It's a 50/50 series at best.

Well, we have 6 games left on the schedule, half of them against sub .500 teams. If we can manage to not lose more than 2 of them — preferably 1 — then it looks like we are likely to remain in the 4 seed.
Looking at who might be in the 5 slot, Phoenix has the toughest last 6 games, followed by New Orleans, then Dallas. (Sacramento is looking like they are going to the Play-in.) I going to assume Dallas will remain in the 5 slot, followed by Phoenix in the 6 slot.
So I’m thinking round 1 will be us vs Mavs and we’ll have home court, and Phoenix vs. OKC. I am hoping the Lakers and the Warriors come out of the play-ins as they would have the best chances to knock off Minnesota and/or Denver. That would be the luckiest scenario for us in case we can get past Dallas, which I think we can.
So maybe… just maybe… the stars might align for us… Just maybe…
But of course, Kawhi needs to come back and come back strong, and sustain it throughout.

If the regular season carries over, Sacramento is 5 - 2 against Minnesota and Denver. The road team won all 3 games between Minnesota and Sacramento.
The road team won all 4 games between Dallas and Sacramento.
