at some point the people with the "refs will make sure the lakers/mavs/whoever win this game" narratives have to deal with actual reality.

at some point the people with the "refs will make sure the lakers/mavs/whoever win this game" narratives have to deal with actual reality. I don't think refs try to make one team win a game. I do think refs actively try and keep games competitive by often favoring the team that's down in a playoff game, or perceived to be the underdog.

I think their jobs are plenty tough enough without trying to manipulate outcomes. Unless you're talking Tim Donaghue, or maybe a personal grudge against a paarticular player (which I doubt often affects calls), I don't see what stake they would have in keeping a game close or a series competitive.

Where are all the "Regular season record doesn't matter" people at?

You seem to have a lot of faith in OKC. I think they are this year's 2023 Memphis - a nice regular season team but incredibly weak playoff team. Memphis didn't have their starting center for the 2023 playoffs. They were weak due to unexpected injury.
Bump, thoughts?

Embiid is a playoff choker. I hate to put that label on him, but he was coughing that game up left and right. Maxey saved their asses.

You mean the guy with the double-double, who just got diagnosed with a serious disease, and is basically playing on one leg? (Thank god we have warriors like Kawhi).

I'll bet you wouldn't play 40 minutes of hide and seek if you got Bell's Palsy. Some people are still having debilitating symptoms two years after they got the vax and haven't been able to work. I hope Embiid's career isn't affected and that his mild case goes away.

Agreed and I thought it could come off as keyboard warriorish, but he was really awful in that game and I'm also tempted to give him a pass but he's also had his level of play go down nearly every postseason.

Which game do you mean? Can't be the last one, where he got a triple-double and 19 points. (Sunday: 27 pts, 10 reb.; Thursday, 50 pts.). I have only been watching sporadically, but he's looked fine, EXCEPT that he clearly cannot run at full speed.

I hope Embiid's career isn't affected and that his mild case goes away. Well now, that’s news! I had no idea the vaccine causes Bells Palsy, and neither did the medical community — these fools say they have yet to determine the exact cause of it. There was even a survey that looked into any increase in the number of cases that may have occurred in connection with the pandemic and found no such occurrence. ========= … After a year of the COVID-19 pandemic, attributing to the SARS-CoV-2 virus an increase of incidence of BP cases remains unclear…
National Institute of Health
========= Quick, let’s post this on Tic Toc, let it go viral, then the world will know and we will no longer need to rely on these stupid scientists to tell us what’s what.

And yesterday he was pretty bad the whole game. Really bad shooting, awful turnovers (9 total) at the worst time, missing easy shots in the 4th, dumb flagrant foul at a critical point late in game up 4. It's different than Kawhi who just looked super limited, he actively makes boneheaded plays imo. Obv he's a great player, but during the regular season you hear a lot of chatter about how he might actually be better than Jokic.
