I think this is a great draft class. Easily better than last year's. Yeah there are a bunch of rookies playing very solid, mature basketball in this class. There is a lot of good efficiency among this crew which is unusual for rookies. There are 10 who are playing above league average for their position, which seems well higher than normal.

After last night's game I am thinking Shae Gilgeous-Alexander will win ROY. He really is a factor on both sides of the court and has a whole lot of savvy for a rookie. And he should soon be a starter for us and get a lot of minutes a game which will help his stats. Doncic may not improve as much as SGA even though he is already really good. Not sure Ayton will get much attention playing for the Suns. Trae too inconsistent but who knows with him. I honestly think he's not in contention for it. The guys ahead of him will have more playing time than he will for the entire season, and more focus on them for the whole season.

I'm leaning toward Carter Jr. right now.

I am biased because basically the only rookie that I see playing all his games is Shai. Agree that some rookies will put up big numbers for bad teams while SGA may have his minutes cut down when Bradley gets back. But I would not mind picking SGA ahead of Young, Sexton, or Knox if we had to do the draft over again.

I'm leaning toward Carter Jr. right now. I agree, I think he's played the best of the rookies so far. Shai can't win it because he isn't going to be one of the centerpieces of the team like Ayton will be, who is still probably the front runner at this point. Most rookies aren't good on defense and while his block rate is shameful for a guys his size he's been pretty good at the other stuff

There have been some good defenders with lower block rates, like Tyson Chandler. I'm not sure Ayton is one of them right now. Maybe I change my mind later, we will see. As for Carter Jr., it's impressive to see a rookie adapt so easily on defense. And I think the transition from college to the NBA involves learning about a lot more sophisticated defensive schemes, with mis-directions, guys that look like they're going to set a screen but then fake it and cut; etc. Yet he's handled it all, it appears.

Trae Young is having a pretty good rookie year, for most number of 10 assist, 20 point games. He's comparable with Chris Paul, LeBron James, and other notable rookies.
I didn't see Tyreke Evans on that list, but he is probably in that ballpark too, for rookie seasons.
I haven't watched Trae play in a full rookie season, but I hope he has a long, healthy career.
There hasn't been anyone to pin my hopes on, since Michael Carter-Williams. Young doesn't have Carter-William's steals, though.

Also, I cooled off on Wendell Carter Jr. By the end of November, he had been too inconsistent.
Ayton doesn't look that great to me. He's not Anthony Davis or Giannis Antetokounmpo.

I hope Carter Jr. though makes big strides next year, though.
There hasn't been a good young fierce defensive big in a long time.
Even someone like Rudy Gobert, was more gradual.

Luka for sure. I think he busts the myth that Larry Bird can’t play in today’s NBA. Only 19, and he’s playing like a 10 year veteran. Trae Young just happens to be in the same draft class as Luka, otherwise Trae Young would be my pick for ROY. I absolutely despise most of the talking heads on ESPN and FS1 (I usually get my NBA news through YouTube channels)and I’m so happy that Trae is proving them wrong. Shout out to Shai, he’s really solid. Great pick by the Clippers. Shamet looks like he can be a clear steal of the 2018 draft and we got him for a player we weren’t even gonna resign. There’s plenty others that have had good rookie seasons but I haven’t followed much so I can’t comment too much. Definitely looks like 2018 has the potential to be one of the best draft classes.

I've already seen enough of Shamet to say he's WAY better than Jerome Robinson at this point. Not saying Jerome won't be what West thought he would but Shamet ALREADY is. If Robinson can be packaged to bring in something better, go for it because I'm seeing a Shamet and Alexander backcourt for the next few years.
