How do you figure that we are fighting for the 8th spot with the Lakers? The Kings are still a game ahead of the Lakers and the Lakers have a tough schedule and have been losing to bad teams. We're also 4 games ahead of the Lakers and ahead of the Spurs for now. Wouldn't it be more accurate to say the Spurs/Clippers/Kings are fighting for the 7th and 8th spots? Because we still have two more head to head games with them. If they win both of those games they instantly make up two games on us AND they would also clinch the tie breaker. We don’t play the Kings anymore and we own the tie breaker against them. That's assuming they have a better record than us outside of those two games. They are still 4.5 games behind us with a tougher schedule.

Losing to the twice would be awful and probably put us out of the playoffs, but it wouldn't put them in the playoffs. They're down to a 2.5% chance of making the playoffs, and that's not going to be about two games, even if the two games is to us.

According to ESPN's Basketball Power Index, the Lakers now have a 0.9 percent chance to make the playoffs. But Trapp says it will come down to those two games?

Just making an observation here. When firemillen started the "3 minutes until Laker meltdown" thread on the old boards, gilp5 said that some fans focus more on the Lakers losing than the Clippers winning. gilp5 said he focused more on the Clippers. (I do too, btw.)
I believe gilp5 said something about needing to "mature as fans" and not focus on the Lakers.
jglanton then had a post and said "Is that mature enough for you?" with a pic, but I don't remember what the pic was. I believe one fan confirmed that he/she even gets more enjoyment out of a Lakers loss than a Clippers win. But on these boards, gilp5 has been discussing the Lakers playoffs chances, in recent weeks.

Wow great memory Nuraman! Let me modify your observation a bit - I haven't been bringing up the Lakers, but instead reacting to several people who are obsessed with thinking that the Lakers are competing with us to make the playoffs. My overall point is that I don't understand how people here seem to be focusing on the Lakers even when it is plainly obvious we are not competing with them for a spot anymore. I guess it's a bit of frustration that Clipper fans can't seem to get them out of their heads.

Good post, agree.
I'm more interested in Minnesota and San Antonio. Minnesota, because I've believed that they just needed health from Teague.
San Antonio, because they have the active playoffs streak going. They're at 21 seasons. Portland also had 21, and both the Syracase Nationals and Philadelphia had 22.
Utah had 20.
It was sad that both Portland's 21, and Utah's 20, ended when neither team made the 2004 playoffs. Utah finished 9th, and Portland finished 10th.
In the East, Brooklyn, Detroit, Orlando, and Charlotte are fighting for 6 - 8.
I kind of want to see Charlotte become a consistent playoffs contender. This one year in, then 1 or 2 years out isn't much progress.
And if Detroit makes the playoffs, seeing them on national TV with last year's coach of the year Casey will be interesting.

I said in an earlier post (responding to Trapp) that the discussion should be Clippers/Minnesota/Kings competing for the 7th and 8th spots.

Me, I'm arrogant, I'm focusing on San Antonio and Utah, I want the 6th seed... Could happen, only a couple of games out of the 6th seed with 17 games left to go...

I live in L.A. Being trashed by Lakers fans for decades is why I obsess with finishing ahead of the Lakers. I want to always beat them and finish ahead of them in the standings. If we can't win a championship we can at least win the battle of L.A. And I don't care what they Lakers chances are statistically. They have Lebron which makes them dangerous. They are dead when they are dead. Hopefully tonight we will put them away then we can concentrate on the Spurs. Jazz we will not catch. OKC, Jazz, Rockets, and Blazers will fight it out for 3 through 6 in the standings. We will not catch any of them IMO.

Funny how some people still haven't learned that you don't count Lebron out until he is out. Even the Warriors learned that in the finals.
Yeah it certainly looks good for us right now, and if we win tonight, it is pretty much a lock, but I won't count Lebron out until he is officially out, we should have all learned that by now.

Laker is someone who hangs out around lakes. Since Minnesota is the land of 10,000 lakes and that is where the Lakers came from it figures that is what they are named after. Dodgers are named after guys who dodged subway cars in Brooklyn.

We can go .500 the rest of the way while the Kings and Lakers have to play .750 in order to catch us. We’re right there. Imagine how attractive our team would look if we made the 5th or even 4th seed. We also have Shamrock on our side.
