When you strip out the coddling of his son and ex-Celtics and his horrendous moves as GM, he actually has the team playing well. He complains too much for my taste, but that is probably a strategic decision to get the refs to make calls for him later in the game.
Is Doc a keeper?

Yes, Doc is a keeper. Top 5 coach in the league right now. Second year in a row where he's done more with less and well exceeded expectations. And the "Doc doesn't like young players" myth is busted - he's been STARTING three players 21 years old or younger (though two of those three JUST turned 22 - happy birthday Shamet and Zu!). Outside of Clippers fans, MOST fans would want him to coach their favorite team.

Doc is about to become only the 6th coach in NBA history to win 300 games with more than one franchise.

It depends on who else is available and wants to coach the Clippers (as opposed to only considering the Clippers and that coach having multiple job offers).

I believe Doc is second only to Pop in games won and currently coaching a team (Pop's won 1,214, and Doc's won 846). He is also second to Pop in wins over .500 of active coaches. He has the 5th or 6th best winning percentage record of all coaches currently coaching a team (not counting coaches who had less than a year coaching). 5th in current coaches with championships.
Docs a top level coach. I think it's fair to rank him 5th in the NBA.

Doc has done a better job coaching Lou Williams than any other coach who had him. Ditto with Jamal Crawford. Ditto with CP3. He doesn't coach a system per se. He allows players to do what they do best. Far too many NBA coaches try and run systems that do not suit their players. The talent of the players involved should be what dictates the system. That is why Harrell and Lou are the highest scoring duo off the bench in NBA history. Because Doc let's them run the plays that they practice together all summer and makes sure they are on the court together most of the time.
This year and last year I think Doc has done an excellent job. Only reason we didn't win a championship during lob city era was because Blake, CP3, and DJ were not good enough. It wasn't the coaching IMO.

I’ve been as much of a Doc hater as anyone else over the years but he’s really impressed me the last 2 seasons. He deserves to stick around. I believe that the front office will have Doc set up for success as we move forward. Best of all, our players are displaying how great Doc currently is. This is the Doc we needed during the Lobcity era. Either that or our players egos were so inflated, there was nothing Doc or any coach can do.

Doc could have stepped down as a GM when he realized that his moves cost the team
He could have traded his son away when he realized that his presence was hurting the team, but he didn't
He is being forced to play those rookies, mostly because he can't pick off his ex-celtics from the street to sign them to play for us. The FO has him by the balls.
Most of the success we are having is coming from the FO regulating what Doc does, which never happened before.

Multiple sources now say Lakers have interest in Doc Rivers as coach.
He's under contract with Clippers through 2020-2021 season.
We paid an unprotected first round pick for him.

This is killing me. For years we wanted to run him out of town. Now that he has proven he can coach, the Lakers rumors start. He is signed long-term so he can't leave unless we let him.
I think the talk shows just need some Lakers news since they are officially out of the playoffs. They probably get their "sources" trolling these boards.

Here is the rumor, from Peter Vecsey (seems kinda weak):
Would Rivers earnestly consider leaving a rebuilt playoff team (three starters are 22, 22 & 20; and then there’s Danilo Gallinari and two nuclear subs) that will enjoy enough cap space July 1 to entice on paper two free agents worthy of maximum investment (Kevin Durant and Kawhi Leonard are my educated guesses), and an owner who won’t faintly flinch to shell it out?
Of course, Rivers would!
According to a confidant, he almost always has wanted to leash the Lakers. In conversations over the years, Doc frequently expressed an ardent ambition to coach either them, or the Knicks before retiring, if for no other motivation than their worldwide brands.

Sounds like Doc's agent started the rumor to get the Clipps to renegotiate his contract. The team just signed him to an extension so not even worth discussing the rumor. Did anyone catch Austin Rivers on The Starters last night? Big media push by Team Rivers. Austin will need a new contract this summer.
