Don't forget Player A [broke/tore/ruptured] his [hand/ACL/Achilles] by [getting in a fight at a nightclub/playing with his kids/walking down the street] and will miss [an undetermined period of time/the entire season/2-4 weeks].
My money is on Danilo to be Player A from our team.

Good one. I forgot about the strange injury news we get about players, right as training camp starts.

Is he day to day, or will it last longer?

To be fair, it's undetermined because he didn't want to reveal the medical issue, which is ok. www.nbcsports.com/northwest/portland-trail-blazers/radio-play-play-voice-brian-wheeler-open-season-medical-leave

Re-posting this yearly rant on this forum. Long running issue I have with sports journalism during any preseason time in sports. Every team will issue these generic Training Camp Stories for some of their players. 1) Player A has gained 20 lbs. and is now stronger than an ox! Look how much tougher he is. 2) Player B has lost 25 lbs. and is now faster than a cheetah! Look how quick and agile he is. 3) Player C is shooting 80% on practice 3-point shots! He is going to burn the nets down next year. 4) This is the hardest training camp ever 5) Player X is in the best shape he's been in Y years 6) The whole team is in the best shape ever! 7) Player D is a few pounds heavier than we'd like him to be, but he'll be ready when the season starts. 8) Player E has been working out all summer but just needs to get into game shape. 9) Player F is in game shape but just needs to get his timing back. 10) The new players on the team have to learn the system, so they can get their timing. 11. Spending half of Training Camp in China retarded the second team's learning curve. 12. Don't forget Player A [broke/tore/ruptured] his [hand/ACL/Achilles] by [getting in a fight at a nightclub/playing with his kids/walking down the street] and will miss [an undetermined period of time/the entire season/2-4 weeks]. MLB Specific: 13) He's just working on a new pitch. 14) He's working on a new delivery. 15) He's working on a new swing (or a new stance). What are this year's stories? I added one more for @clippersisyphus , it's the new # 12.

How about the perenniel: "Using last-year's [success/championship/disgraceful playoff choke] as motivation."

Do you have any favorites that you'd hear during Red Sox spring training, over the years?

Years ago, jglanton had the "Player X is in the best shape he's been in Y years" one. Which is the same as the first item in the "unrealistic development goal".
But jglanton was years ahead of the above chart, on that one.

Have we heard the Ibaka one about a "fresh start" yet?

Wow. NOTHING will match this year's bean-counting apologists who are still arguing that getting rid of the best player in the league (resulting in a last place finish for Boston, WS win for LA) was a good idea. Maybe they're the same ones who a few years back argued that replacing the most successful manager in team history with Bobby Valentine would bring discipline to the team (result: another last place finish).

So you're saying there's been stories both last year, and this year, about how "getting rid of Mookie Betts was best for the franchise"?
And something similar about Francona?

Oh yes. Anyone who says Boston should have kept Mookie is ridiculed by "real fans" as knowing nothing about baseball, economics, analytics, history, morality, the future, or the mating habits of the blue-footed booby. (As for Francona, I think most fans admit that "chicken-gate" was b.s., and that getting rid of him was a mistake. But hey, we have Cora, who has similar virtues. And Francona wasn't out of work for long. So all's good.)

How about "full of shit," "needs to stfu," and "hasn't learned a damn thing from the bubble," for a certain member of this team. His nickname starts with P and rhymes with Endemic P.
