I guess this one could belong to this thread as well:
Paul George- “i’m on muthafuckas asses this year. i’m back with the trainer from my mvp season. i get an offseason to work on my game (and not rehab). i listen to kobe motivational quotes while i lift, while i work. i’m as locked in as you can be.”

Re-posting this yearly rant on this forum. Long running issue I have with sports journalism during any preseason time in sports. Every team will issue these generic Training Camp Stories for some of their players. 1) Player A has gained 20 lbs. and is now stronger than an ox! Look how much tougher he is. 2) Player B has lost 25 lbs. and is now faster than a cheetah! Look how quick and agile he is. 3) Player C is shooting 80% on practice 3-point shots! He is going to burn the nets down next year. 4) This is the hardest training camp ever 5) Player X is in the best shape he's been in Y years 6) The whole team is in the best shape ever! 7) Player D is a few pounds heavier than we'd like him to be, but he'll be ready when the season starts. 8) Player E has been working out all summer but just needs to get into game shape. 9) Player F is in game shape but just needs to get his timing back. 10) The new players on the team have to learn the system, so they can get their timing. 11. Spending half of Training Camp in China retarded the second team's learning curve.
12. Don't forget Player A [broke/tore/ruptured] his [hand/ACL/Achilles] by [getting in a fight at a nightclub/playing with his kids/walking down the street] and will miss [an undetermined period of time/the entire season/2-4 weeks]. MLB Specific: 13) He's just working on a new pitch. 14) He's working on a new delivery. 15) He's working on a new swing (or a new stance).
Technically this was pre training camp.
But with mistwell 's "Hookah Doncic" OP, we might have a new entry:
16) Player L was caught with a bong, and is a few pounds heavier than he should be.
There is an overlap with # 7, but it also adds details of offseason recreation.
What do you think? Does this warrant a new entry, about players and some of their recreational offseason choices?
What about this one: Player B(en) was seen photographed kissing person X, at a public event.
Maybe we can use the bracket system, like @clippersisyphus ' # 12.
16) Player L was [caught with a bong / at the strip club every day / partying every night / seen with fling X at a public event], and is now not mentally or physically ready to start the season.

dane, mistwell: I think we have #17: 17) Player K says he's going to play more this year than last year. Coach T agrees.

The stuff coming out about Westbrook's leadership role behind the scenes, the mini camp he set up in Vegas and team iPhones he gave every player, the stuff he's said about money and team, man it is all sounding like true leadership. He's really embracing the role. I love to see this. He's done more as a leader in this short a time than either Kawhi or George did in years. LINK1 LINK 2

So unlike most training camp stories I post about, which I think are pretty much generic and can be applied to a lot of teams, I DO believe Westbrook.
For his entire career, he's always seemed like the kind of players players want on their team. Doesn't point fingers, doesn't get into arguments with teammates.
Plays as much as possible.
He played all 21 games for the Clippers.
He's one of those players that I think players like a lot more than fans, because some fans just look at the negatives of his in-game play.
But I think there's something to be said about one of those players that others trust, to be in the "foxhole" with them, and that seems to be Westbrook.

The last guy I remember getting fired up about the season and setting up informal practices and saying the right things was Mo Williams. That was about a week before he was gone.

Who has put on 15 lb of muscle, and who is in the best shape of their life, this season?
Who is taking 500 shots a day, and who was in the worst shape of life?

I remember every training camp, DJ's been working on his freethrow shooting. That one actually worked, he went from 40% to 60%. That's a 50% improvement. Not sure what planet you live on, but people down here on Earth consider that shitty.
